Kurt Sier

Kurt Sier (born April 21, 1955 in Dudweiler ) is a German classical philologist .

Kurt Sier studied Classical Philology, German Philology , Philosophy and Indo-European Philology at the University of Saarland and the University of Zurich from 1974 to 1980 . From 1981 to 1987 he was a research assistant, after completing his doctorate in 1986 he became an academic councilor and senior councilor in 1987 (until 1994). After his habilitation in 1996, he was appointed Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Leipzig in the same year . Since 2000 he has been a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz, where he has chaired the Commission for Classical Philology since 2004. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Commission for the Corpus Medicorum Graecorum / Latinorum of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .

Sier deals with ancient philosophy, Greek drama, Hellenistic poetry and ancient literary theory.
