Bouglainval is a French commune in the Eure-et-Loir in the region Center-Val de Loire . The 767 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) are called Valbourgeois (es).

geography

Bouglainval is 14 kilometers northeast of Chartres and 5.8 kilometers west of Maintenon . The location in a valley gave the place its name, Bouglainval arose from bourg dans la vallée (market town in the valley). The hamlet of Théléville is part of the municipality but is closer to Berchères-la-Maingot, part of Berchères-Saint-Germain . Théléville is located on Canal de l' Eure (channel of the Eure), which during the reign of Louis XIV. (1638-1715) of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban was built to Versailles to be supplied with water.

history

Bouglainval was first mentioned as a seigneurie in the 13th century . The Saint-Martin church, which dates back to the 11th century, was destroyed during the Huguenot Wars (1562-1598) and then rebuilt.

The rue des Tirailleurs (street of the snipers) commemorates eleven soldiers of the 26th battalion of the Tirailleurs sénégalais who perished there on June 16, 1940 when they tried to slow down the advancing German army. Tirailleur referred to in France in the First and Second World War soldiers of the light infantry who had been recruited in French colonies.
