The Eure-et-Loir [ œʀelwaːʀ ] is the French department with the atomic number 28. It is in the center of the country in the Region Center-Val de Loire and by the rivers Eure and Loir named. The department has an area of 5,880 km² and 433,233 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
geography
The Eure-et-Loir department is bordered by the Eure department in the north, the Yvelines department in the northeast, the Essonne department in the east, the Loiret department in the southeast, the Loir-et-Cher department in the south and the Loir-et-Cher department in the west the departments of Sarthe and Orne .
Most of the department belongs to the landscape of the Beauce , the west to the landscape of the Perche . The eponymous rivers both have their source in the Perche. While the Eure initially flows eastwards to the capital Chartres and then leaves the department to the north, the Loir drains the department to the south.
history
The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from the north-western part of the province of Orléanais and the east of the Perche and a small part of the Île-de-France .
It has belonged to the Center region since 1960 , which was renamed Center-Val de Loire in 2016 .
