Philippe Poutou
Philippe Poutou (born March 14, 1967 in Villemomble , Département Seine-Saint-Denis ) is a French , anti-capitalist politician and trade unionist and worker in a car factory.
Career
Poutou was born in a suburb north of Paris , his father was a postman and his mother a housewife. He has three siblings.
He is a mechanic and works at the Blanquefort auto assembly plant near Bordeaux . He is secretary in the French trade union Confédération générale du travail at Ford Motor Company in Aquitaine . In 2007 he played an important role in the union's negotiations with the company to keep 2,000 jobs.
Political career
He was previously a member of the Ligue communiste révolutionnaire (LCR), for which he ran for the 2007 parliamentary elections in France , which received 2.7%. Then came the for the successor party of the Nouveau Parti anticapitaliste in regional elections in Aquitaine and received 2.52% of the vote.
In 2011 he was nominated by the NPA as a candidate for the French presidential election 2012 . He was considered unknown at the time and had difficulties connecting with his predecessor Olivier Besancenot , who had previously achieved the best results for the predecessor party LCR. Potou eventually got 411,160 votes, scooping 1.15% in the presidential election. The French press explained his poor result in part with the simultaneous appearance of Jean-Luc Mélenchon from the Front de gauche , who was able to inspire more left-wing voters.
For the 2017 presidential election in France , Philippe Poutou was again nominated as a candidate by the NPA. He managed to get some attention on a television show that invited all eleven candidates when he sharply attacked Marine Le Pen and other politicians. In the social networks Poutou got a lot of recognition for his appearance. As a result, its value in surveys rose by one percent, to a total of 1.5%. Philippe Poutou received 394,505 (1.09%) votes in the 2017 presidential election, ranking 8th out of 11 candidates. He achieved the best results in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (1.61%) and the Gironde department (1.56%).
