Nouveau Parti anticapitaliste (NPA; German  New Anti-Capitalist Party ) is a socialist , anti-capitalist political party founded in France in 2009 . It has around 1800 members (2017). The NPA is not represented in the French National Assembly or in the European Parliament.

history

The founding of the party was decided in 2008, parallel to the self-dissolution of the Trotskyist- oriented Revolutionary Communist League ( Ligue communiste révolutionnaire , LCR). The close programmatic ties to Trotskyism should be given up in order to open up to other currents, groups and people from the environment of the radical left. A founding conference (February 6th to 8th, 2009) decided on the final name, the alternative proposal “Anti-Capitalist Revolutionary Party” was rejected by a narrow majority.

In 2012 the NPA put up its own candidate for the presidential elections in France , the worker and trade unionist Philippe Poutou . In the first round, this received 411,160 votes and thus 1.15%. In the 2017 presidential election , too , the party set up Philippe Poutou, who caused quite a stir when he appeared on a television program. As a result of the first round, he received 394,505 votes and thus 1.09%.

Program

The New Anti-Capitalist Party sees itself as a “party [...] that is suitable for the upcoming mobilizations and serves to prepare a radical, revolutionary change in society and thus also capitalism , private ownership of the essential means of production , the plundering of the earth and the Overcoming destruction of the environment. "

The founding appeal refers positively to the concept of socialism of the 21st century and emphasizes the grassroots dimension of political struggles: “A democratic party, the functioning of which enables the population to direct their mobilizations themselves in order to be able to support the social in the future and determine economic processes. ”The future society itself should also be organized on a grassroots basis:“ We want a society that meets social needs and that is free from all forms of exploitation and oppression according to class , gender, age and origin. A society in which democracy is not limited to voting in elections, but enables everyone to have a say. "

The party aims to bring together the fragmented organizations and movements of the radical left and attract new activists. This includes the appeal to “the women and men, with or without identification , who believe that their life is worth more than profit; to the youth who call for resistance when their future prospects are threatened; to the activists in associations and unions who take the initiative every day in their companies and districts; to the socialist , anti-neoliberal, communist and green activists who are fed up with running around in politics, false promises and half-hearted measures […] ”.

The party's spokesman, Olivier Besancenot - who has already stood for the LCR as a presidential candidate - specifies the party's self-image in an interview: “It is [...] not a mere merger with other political currents [...]. This time we want to proceed differently, namely on the basis of a common practice, struggles already waged together and counter-resistance actions that unite us every day. In this practice, the outlines of what a radical and revolutionary change in society could look like are already emerging. "

Characteristic of the political orientation of the party is its vehement rejection of social democracy and the principle of not entering into any government alliances with the Parti socialiste .
