The Oise [ waz ] is the French department with the atomic number 60. It is in the north of the country in the region Hauts-de-France and is named after the river Oise named. The official name is formed according to French language usage with a genitive: Département de l'Oise .

geography

The Oise department borders the Somme department to the north, the Aisne department to the east, the Seine-et-Marne and Val-d'Oise departments to the south, and the Eure and Seine-Maritime departments to the west .

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from parts of the provinces of Picardy and Île-de-France .

From 1960 to 2015 it was part of the Picardy region , which in 2016 became part of the Hauts-de-France region.
