Pont-Sainte-Maxence is a French municipality with 12,209 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Oise in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Senlis and is the capital of the canton of Pont-Sainte-Maxence . The inhabitants are called Pontois or Maxipontains .

The place is still in the Paris basin in the historic Valois region on the banks of the river Oise .
Pont-Sainte-Maxence is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martin-Longueau and Les Ageux in the north, Bazicourt and Houdancourt in the northeast, Pontpoint in the east, Villers-Saint-Frambourg-Ognon with Villers-Saint-Frambourg in the southeast, Fleurines in the south , Verneuil-en-Halatte in the southwest, Beaurepaire and Brenouille in the west and Sacy-le-Grand , Cinqueux and Monceaux in the northeast.
history
The name of the place means on the one hand the bridge over the Oise, built in the early Middle Ages. Maxentia is the name of the daughter of a Scottish king Malcolm who died a martyr's death.
