Former Notre-Dame Abbey

history

The Morienval monastery was one of the most powerful in the Valois ; he owned several mills and rights to the Compiègne forest . The abbot was appointed by the king. In the 9th century coins were minted in the name of the place, which suggests the existence of a market.

  • Notre-Dame monastery church , built from 920, construction time: around a century. It belonged to the double monastery of Notre-Dame-de-Morienval, which according to legend from the time of King I. Scrooge will be financed. The monastery was abandoned in 1744. In the television series Quentin Durward (1970), the church served as the backdrop for the happy ending. The church was classified as a Monument historique in 1840 ( Base Mérimée PA00114760).
