Attractions

  • The famous landscape park of Ermenonville was created between 1766 and 1776 by the Marquis René Louis Girardin . In memory of Jean-Jacques Rousseau , who spent the last six weeks of his life here and was initially buried on an island within the park, he is called Parc Jean-Jacques-Rousseau . It has been a monument historique since 1939 .
  • The Ermenonville Castle ( Château d'Ermenonville ), monument historique since 1930, was built as a moated castle in the classical style. With its two side wings, it encloses a courtyard that opens onto the Parc Jean-Jacques-Rousseau .
  • The Saint-Martin church , also a monument historique (since 1914), dates back to a church building from the 12th century, of which little has been preserved. In essence, today's church was built between 1534 and 1540.
