Creil is a French municipality with 35,657 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Oise in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Senlis and is the capital of the canton of Creil . Creil belongs to the Communauté d'agglomération Creil . Including the suburbs that have grown together with Creil, Creil has over 90,000 inhabitants, making it the second largest metropolitan area in Picardy after Amiens .
Location
The place is on the river Oise . Creil is around 50 kilometers from downtown Paris . Amiens is located just under 80 kilometers north of Creil .
history
In the 16th century, the French royal family had a palace complex built on an island in the Oise.
From the 1960s, an extensive large housing estate called Plateau Rouher was built next to the rather small inner city .
traffic
Creil is not directly connected to a motorway, but has a train station on the important railway line from Paris to Lille and the northern terminus of line D of the RER - the Paris suburban railway.
