Plailly is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Thiers-sur-Théve in the north, Mortefontaine in the east (with its enclave in the west of Plailly), Moussy-le-Neuf in the south and south-east, Vémars in the south, Saint-Witz in the south-west, Survilliers in the west and south-west and La Chapelle-en-Serval to the west and north-west.

The A1 autoroute runs through the north of the municipality .
