Wood of Chantilly
The forest of Chantilly (French Forêt de Chantilly ) is a wooded area that covers 6344 hectares about 36 km north of Paris . It extends over the two departments of Oise and Val-d'Oise . There are 15 communities in the forest area.
The area was owned by the Lords of Chantilly since the Middle Ages . It has been owned by the Institut de France since 1897 and is a nature reserve. The forest is managed by the Office national des forêts . It consists of 48% oak , 12% Scots pine and 9% beech .
Parts of the forest belong to the Natura 2000 network to protect rare and endangered bird habitats. At the same time, six buildings in the forest are under monument protection . Driven hunts still take place in the forest , it is also used for training racehorses. Together with the forest of Halatte and the forest of Ermenonville it forms the three forests massif .
