The idea of such an amusement park came about in a team led by Pierre Tchernia , Marcel Gotlib (colleague with Pilote ), Roger Carel (French film voice of Astérix), the actor Gérard Hernandez , Fred (author of Philémon ) and the Asterix artist Albert Uderzo . In 1987, work began on Parc Astérix in Plailly, France, near Paris . With the theme and the characters from the Asterix comics, a forest area of 155 hectares, 95,000 trees and 4 hectares of water, the park was opened on April 30, 1989.
The park is very popular among the French population and deliberately maintains a French flair in contrast to American-style amusement parks, especially its competitor Disneyland Paris , which is only 30 km away . In addition to scenes from the Gallo-Roman period at Asterix, there are also scenes from France in the Middle Ages and the penultimate turn of the century with shops and handicraft demonstrations.
Attractions
In addition to roller coasters, the park's attractions include a Gaulish village in the center of the park, some rides and shows related to the world of Asterix and the characters from the comics. For the 25th birthday of the park - in the 2014 season - the park is dedicating its own themed area to the Obelix dog: La foret d'Idéfix will be the park's new children's area with five attractions just for children.
The main attraction of the park is generally considered to be the Tonnerre de Zeus (Thunder of Zeus) wooden roller coaster, which opened in 1997 . Since 2012 the OzIris , an inverted coaster steel rollercoaster , has been captivating visitors.
