The Compagnie des Alpes (also Cie des Alpes or CdA ) is an operator of winter sports areas founded in Chambéry in 1989 . The company is 42 percent owned by the state-owned company Caisse des dépôts et consignations and is listed in the French CAC Small . The amusement parks of CdA receive around 10 million visitors annually and the company is the second largest amusement park operator in Europe.

history

In 1989, the French state owned Bank Caisse des Dépôts took over the ski areas in Tignes , Chamonix , Les Arcs , La Plagne , Peisey-Vallandry and Les Menuires . The Compagnie des Alpes was founded and on November 18, 1994 the newly founded company was listed on the Second Marché of the Paris Stock Exchange . The funds raised through the IPO were used to further expand the ski area network. The Grand Massif and Méribel areas were taken over and the Italian market was opened up with the takeover of Courmayeur . Shortly thereafter, ski areas such as Verbier , Saas-Fee and Aletsch Riederalp were partially taken over. The criteria were that there were snow-sure regions in a good location in the medium and high-price sector.

Since the sole specialization in the ski areas was classified as very risky, the CdA took over the listed Grévin & Cie in 2002 , which emerged in 1989 from the Parc Astérix . The Grévin & Cie owns two aquariums, a miniature park , the wax figure museum Musée Grévin , the Dolfinarium Harderwijk , the Avonturenpark Hellendoorn , the Fort Fun Adventure Land and the Parc Bagatelle . In 2003 the Aquaparc in Le Bouveret and in 2004 the Panorama Park Sauerland were taken over. Also in 2004, CdA took over Pleasurewood Hills Park in England.

In 2005, CdA took over the French amusement park La Mer de Sable and an animal park with a dolphinarium and car safari, the Planète Sauvage in Brittany . In the same year, the company headquarters was relocated from Chambéry to Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris. In 2006, five parks from the StarParks Group ( Walibi Belgium , Walibi Holland , Walibi Rhône-Alpes , Walibi Sud-Ouest and Bellewaerde ) were taken over for 240 million euros and in the course of this takeover the name Grévin & Cie was dropped and the amusement park division was renamed CDAparks .

In 2007, the CdA integrated the Sofival ski stations ( Val-d'Isère , La Rosière , Avoriaz and Valmorel ) into the CDAski. The family who owned Sofival took a ten percent stake in the capital of CdA.

In 2019, the CdA took over the Familypark in Burgenland , Austria .
