Walibi Belgium is an amusement park located in Wavre , Belgium .

Name and story

The name "Walibi" is derived from the first letters of the surrounding communities Wavre , Limal and Bierges. With the takeover of the Walibi Group by the US American Six Flags Company, the park was renamed Six Flags Belgium and the orange Walibi kangaroo, which has served as a mascot since the park opened, had to bugs the Warner Bros. characters Bunny soft. In 2004 the European parks of the Six Flags Group were taken over by the newly established Star Parks company. As part of this takeover, the park was called Walibi again and the orange kangaroo also returned. In May 2006, Grévin & Cie took over 5 parks from the Star Parks Group, including 4 with the name Walibi (Walibi Belgium, Walibi World , Walibi Aquitaine , Walibi Rhône-Alpes and Bellewaerde ). In addition, all licenses for the Walibi brand were acquired, so it cannot be ruled out that other Grévin parks will be given the Walibi name. In 2011 the park mascots, which include the kangaroo and its “brother” and a cheetah, were modernized. The formerly childish figures are now more reminiscent of teenagers and should also appear more outside the park in (music) videos and comics. The Walibi group wants to address families with children between 8 and 12 years of age.

particularities

Noteworthy for a European amusement park is the Aqualibi leisure pool located on the park area , which has been available to all visitors to the park for a visit of any length within the park opening hours for a surcharge of half the regular entry price since the beginning of the 2008 season. Previously, a visit to the pool was included in the price for visitors to the amusement park for one hour. Here the visitor will find a wave pool, several water and tire slides and other attractions typical of this type of swimming pool. For those inexperienced in Belgium, however, it should be noted that, due to a decree by the Belgian government, boxer shorts and similar swimming trunks are not permitted in Belgian swimming pools, only "classic" bathing briefs. In 2010 the bath was closed due to extensive renovation work.
