Water roller coaster
A water roller coaster is a ride that has the characteristics of both a roller coaster and a water ride . Most systems have roller coaster-like track elements and quieter passages outside of the water, in which the boats are carried by the frictional resistance of the flowing water, similar to a wild water slide. The boats are usually supplied with potential energy with the help of chain or vertical lifts, which they then convert into kinetic energy on roller coaster rails and then immerse them in water. In contrast to wild water rides, the routing of a water roller coaster is characterized by curved and inclined rails.
Emergence
If the condition is met that the carriage does not have to leave the rail (see Mack Rides), the first steel roller coaster in the world is also one of the first water roller coaster in the world, because the Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland Anaheim have a short splash at the end of the ride, in which the boats dip into a basin and go out again. Even earlier, Mountain Torrent was found on Coney Island , whose structure was made of wood, but still included a roller coaster and a water part.
Mack Rides
In contrast to earlier developments, the eight-person boats only drive on the water outside of the roller coaster rails and once again intervene in the rail profile on the lift. Mack Rides is considered the leading manufacturer of modern water roller coasters.

Dudley Doo Right's Ripsaw Falls at Universal Studios in Orlando is a traditional whitewater rink, but is in the gray area between the whitewater rink and water roller coaster due to the camelback (roller coaster hill) and lap bars.
Another variant of the water roller coaster is the Supersplash , which typically includes a backward ride and a final splash down and can therefore be counted among the water coasters .
Other variants
KumbaK
In 2006, the Dutch manufacturer KumbaK developed the De Vgende Hollander water roller coaster for the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands . The manufacturer used the same system as Disney and the boats are always on the rails. After the final splash, the boat is transported back into the station on the lake by a chain that grips under the water.
The 22 m high runway could not be opened on time and cost 20 instead of the estimated 10 million euros.
Premier Rides
The American manufacturer Premier Rides was able to sell two of its Liquid Coaster , of which only one is still in operation today. The prototype was delivered to Silver Dollar City. PowderKeg was converted into a Launched Coaster by S&S in 2005 and is no longer reminiscent of a whitewater run.
The second version, called Vonkaputous, opened in 2001 in Linnanmäki , a Finnish amusement park. Just like with KumbaK and Disney, Premier Rides relied on a continuously guided course on rails. In Vonkaputous also the Italian company was L & T Rides involved in the production.
Intamin
Intamin's first water roller coaster opened at Holiday World. Pilgrim's Plunge has only one large descent, but it is done on roller coaster rails. As with Mack Rides, the car can drive freely in the water channel.
The second Divertical delivery took place in Mirabilandia in 2011; in contrast to Pilgrim's Plunge, the first Splash is followed by another course with curves and a block brake. Divertical is the highest water roller coaster in the world.
Intamin's Aquatrax is not counted directly as a water rollercoaster , so the wagons never dive into the water. Even so, water is essential to this type of ride. Passengers can be sprayed wet with water nozzles, for example.
The only delivery of Intamin was to the South Korean theme park Lotte World .
