Parques Reunidos is a Spanish operator of water, animal and amusement parks. With over 60 parks worldwide and almost 30 of them in Europe, it is one of the largest in Europe. According to the company, over 21 million visitors visit the group's parks every year.

history

The company was founded in 1967 as "Parque de Atracciones Casa de Campo de Madrid, SA" and opened in 1969 what is now the Parque de Atracciones de Madrid . Several animal and water parks have been added over the years. In 2003 the company was taken over by the US private equity group Advent International , which then financed a strong expansion with 224 million euros and allowed the originally Spanish group to expand abroad for the first time. In April 2004, the Belgian Bobbejaanland was bought, in 2006 the French Marineland for 75 million euros and Mirabilandia in Italy. From the time it was bought by Advent until the end of 2006, sales more than doubled from 83 to 194 million euros.

After a bidding competition, the group was then sold again to the British private equity group Candover in early 2007. In the further course of the year, the group was greatly enlarged through acquisitions. In addition to the US park group Palace Entertainment for approx. 330 million US $, the Danish amusement park BonBon-Land was bought for an estimated 20 million euros and TusenFryd for the equivalent of 47 million euros. In addition, the Aqualud water park in France and three animal parks in Great Britain for £ 10.4 million were acquired. The group also manages Parque Warner Madrid and has a ten-year purchase option.

On December 11, 2007, it was announced that the US business would continue to grow with the purchase of Kennywood and the associated other parks and water parks. In May 2010 the group took over the German theme park Movie Park Germany and in February 2018 the German theme park Belantis near Leipzig . In December 2018 it was announced that the Brandenburg amusement park Tropical Islands would be sold by its previous owner, the Malaysian Tanjong Group, to Parques Reunidos for around 200 million euros. In January 2019, the group took over the Weltvogelpark Walsrode from the previous owner, Floralux.
