L'Oceanogràfic ( Valencian , / loseˌanoˈɣɾafik / ; Spanish. El Oceanográfico ) is an Ozeaneum in Valencia , Spain . It is part of the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias and is located in the drained river bed of the Turia in the east of the city. The aquarium was designed by the architect Félix Candela and the engineers Alberto Domingo and Carlos Lázaro and opened on February 14, 2003.
With a total area of around 110,000 m² and a capacity of around 42 million liters of water, it is the largest aquarium complex in Europe. It is home to around 45,000 animals and around 500 different species u. a. Mammals , invertebrates , fish , reptiles and birds .
The park is divided into different themed areas that cover all of the world's major climates - the Mediterranean , wetlands , Antarctica and Arctic , the islands , the tropical sea , the temperate zone and the Red Sea . The dolphinarium , designed as a stadium, holds around 24 million liters of water at a depth of 10.5 meters, making it one of the largest of its kind in the world.
