The Advent International Corporation ( Advent ), headquartered in Boston is one of America's largest private equity funds with assets under management of 18 billion euros.

history

Advent was founded in 1984 by Peter Brooke . Since 1984 Advent has invested in more than 500 companies in 35 countries, 130 of which have been listed on international stock exchanges.

Advent in German-speaking countries

In Germany, Advent has been active in Frankfurt am Main since 1991 under the umbrella of Advent International GmbH .

Advent bought in Germany among other things

  • in January 2005 HT Troplast together with Carlyle (PVC processing - resale 2007 to Arcapita)
  • in August 2005 Herlitz (office supplies - resale to Pelikan in 2009)
  • in September 2005 majority stake in Casa Reha (care services - from January 2008 only minority stake)
  • in May 2006 RWE Solutions complete (with the holdings Lahmeyer International , SAG and Nukem ) complete (sale of the individual companies)
  • in February 2007 BAYER founded the chemical company HC Starck together with Carlyle
  • in March 2007 Oxea in Oberhausen (chemical producer)
  • in July 2007 the PVC paste area of Ineos at the Schkopau and Hillhouse (UK) locations.
  • in July 2007 a majority stake in Takko (fashion discounter - resale in December 2010 to the British private equity group Apax )
  • in October 2009 median clinics (clinic company).
  • in October 2012 the “Coating Resins” division (synthetic resin production) from the chemical company Cytec . Today it operates worldwide under the name Allnex .
  • in December 2012 the majority in Douglas Holding (retail group)
  • founded the financial services provider Concardis together with Bain Capital in January 2017
  • in August 2017 Williams Lea Tag from Deutsche Post AG
  • In March 2019 the methacrylate compound, which also includes the production of Plexiglas , for 3 billion euros from Evonik . The company has been trading under the name Röhm GmbH since August 1, 2019 .
  • At the end of August 2020 it was announced that the Otto Group , as the majority owner , will withdraw from Hermes Europe and sell 25% of Hermes Germany to Advent International, including 75% from Hermes Great Britain.

In Switzerland, Advent has a stake in Dufry , an operator of airport duty free shops.

In June 2018, Advent International submitted an offer to acquire General Electric's internal combustion engine business for 2.8 billion euros. GE approved the sale. This also includes the companies GE Jenbacher and Waukesha Engines .
