history

In 1972 the British Sir Ronald Cohen (* 1945), born in Egypt as the son of Jewish immigrants, founded the venture capital company Multinational Management Group . In cooperation with his business partner Maurice Tchénio, offices were opened in England, France and the USA under the name MMG .

Independent of this development, the American Alan Patricof (* 1934) founded the company Alan Patricof Associates (APA) in the USA in 1969 . In 1977 the three founders merged to form APAX . In 1980 the first fund was launched in the USA for 25 million US dollars, followed in 1981 by the first fund in England for a total of 10 million pounds.

At the insistence of investors, the first pan-European fund was founded in 1999 to bundle the activities of the European and Israeli offices. In the same year the Apax Globis Fund was set up in Japan.

In 2001 the name of the US company was renamed Apax Partners Inc. , and in 2002 the offices in Europe and the USA merged to form Apax Partners Worldwide LLP . The French activities, however, run largely independently under their own funds.

After Ronald Cohen announced that he would retire from management, Martin Halusa headed the company as global CEO from January 2004 to January 2014 . Patricof also left the company and founded the holding company Greycroft . Tchénio is the current Chairman and CEO of the French Apax Partners SA .

In April 2005 the merger with Saunders Karp & Megrue, a US company specializing in takeovers, took place. Since then, both companies have operated under the name Apax Partners, LP. In the same year, Apax Partners bought Tommy Hilfiger Corporation , which previously belonged to fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger , for 1.6 billion dollars. The Tommy Hilfiger Corporation had also owned the Karl Lagerfeld SAS brand since the end of 2004 .

In March 2010 it was announced that the American fashion group Phillips-Van Heusen will take over the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation from Apax Partners for the equivalent of 2.2 billion euros by autumn 2010 at the latest. The Karl Lagerfeld SAS brand is not part of the sale and remains with Apax Partners. On February 29, 2012, Apax bought the cell phone brand "Orange Switzerland" for the equivalent of 1.6 billion Swiss francs.

In July 2016, Apax Partners sold its stake in Epicor to KKR for an undisclosed amount .
