The MEDIAN group of companies BV & Co. KG is a clinic group based and active in Germany with currently 120 rehabilitation clinics, hospitals and care facilities and around 18,000 beds based in Berlin . The group of companies employs around 15,000 people. Special medical focuses are neurological , cardiological , psychosomatic and orthopedic rehabilitation . In addition to specialist clinics, the group of companies also includes facilities oriented towards acute medicine.
Corporate development
history
The history of the company has been shaped significantly over the past 40 years by the founders, long-time owners and managing directors of the company, Erich Marx and Axel Steinwarz. They had sold their stake in 2009 to the international investment company Advent International and the London-based real estate and private equity company Marcol in order to facilitate the generation change. At the same time they withdrew from the management. The financial investor Waterland Private Equity took over the shares of Advent International and Marcol in 2014 and announced the merger with RHM Klinik- und Altenheimbetriebe , of which it is also the majority shareholder.
growth
At the end of 2010, Median Kliniken GmbH announced the complete takeover of the health company Pitzer Kliniken. With the takeover of the Oberrheinische Kliniken in Baden-Württemberg in 2011, the clinic group now owns six more medical facilities and, for the first time, includes two nursing homes .
In November 2013, the takeover of the Bad Gottleuba health park by Median Kliniken took effect. The complex consisting of a number of clinics in the catchment area of the Saxon state capital Dresden is a clinic center with around 580 beds in which around 7,000 patients are rehabilitated annually. The five specialist clinics with around 400 employees specialize in orthopedics, psychosomatics and internal medicine . A family clinic is also integrated with an extensive range of treatment and care options for adults and children, including a state-approved school.
In March 2014, Median Kliniken took over the Gyhum Rehabilitation Center . The rehabilitation center in Lower Saxony , founded in 1988, includes the specialist clinic for orthopedics with around 130 beds, for geriatrics with around 105 beds and for neurology with 81 beds, as well as a geriatric acute department with 22 beds.
In October 2014 it became known that the investor Waterland had taken over the shares in the companies Marcol and Advent. A merger with the RHM clinic and nursing home operations , which also belong to Waterland, was completed in two steps in 2014/15. In July 2016 it was announced that the Median Kliniken will take over the AHG Allgemeine Hospitalgesellschaft .
On June 1, 2017, the Company announced that the Franks Park clinic in the Bavarian state Bad Kissingen and the rehabilitation center Wilhelmshaven (a rehabilitation clinic for orthopedics and neurology) will be among Median future.
After the change of COO Kai Swoboda to the board of directors of IKK Classic, Median expanded his management team on April 1, 2018, the new position of fourth managing director and chief development officer will be filled by Benedikt Simon. On August 1, 2018, Florian Frensch was appointed to the management as COO.
At the end of September 2018, Median took over the Mühlengrund Clinic Center in Bad Wildungen, Hesse.
Kliniken Wied GmbH & Co. KG, with the two clinics Haus Mühlental in Wied and Haus Sonnenhang in Steimel, were taken over by the Median Group as the Median Klinik Wied at the beginning of 2019. The Eschenburg Clinic in the Hessian Lahn-Dill district and the outpatient cardiological rehabilitation center "Rhein-Reha" in Düsseldorf were signed in July 2019. The rehab center "Rhein-Reha" will then be organizationally integrated into the already existing Median Outpatient Health Center Düsseldorf from January 2020.
