Avoriaz

Avoriaz is a winter sports resort opened in 1966 in the area of the municipality of Morzine in the Haute-Savoie department in the French Alps on the border with Switzerland .
Foundation and equipment
Avoriaz was built in the 1960s on an alpine pasture area and, as a designed tourist resort, does not have an old village center. The place is 1,800 m above sea level and is car-free. The ski station has 39 ski lifts and 49 slopes (6 black, 14 red, 24 blue and 5 green) with a total length of 73 km. Avoriaz is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area , which has a total of 650 km of ski slopes. There are crossings with ski lifts to Val-d'Illiez- Planachaux via the Pas de Chavanette , to Les Crosets via the Col des Portes du Soleil and to Châtel via Les Lindarets.
When the visibility is good, Lake Geneva , Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi can be seen.
Events
From 1973 to 1993, Avoriaz regularly hosted an international festival of fantastic films in January . The VII European Ski Mountaineering Championship was held here from March 24th to 28th, 2007 . In 2010, Avoriaz was the destination of the 8th stage of the Tour de France and thus the 6th stage location .
Aquariaz
In July 2012, Aquariaz, a 2,400 m² aquapark, opened. The park, unique of its kind, offers water sensations in a tropical setting.
