The Private Johannes-Gymnasium is a Catholic, state-recognized private school sponsored by the St. Hildegard-Schulgesellschaft mbH of the Diocese of Limburg. The high school is located in Lahnstein ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) in the immediate vicinity of the eponymous Johanniskirche and the confluence of the Lahn into the Rhine in the Niederlahnstein district . One of the school's express goals is to instill Christian values in its students. The grammar school specializes in teaching music and the ancient languages Latin and ancient Greek .
history
The Johannes-Gymnasium was founded in 1920 as a Catholic high school and boarding school by the Arnstein Fathers, especially as a school for the next generation of the Order. In 1938 the grammar school was closed as a church school by the National Socialists and could only be reopened in October 1945. The grammar school and boarding school were originally housed in the monastery building of the Johannes monastery. In May 1950, due to the steadily growing number of students, today's "old building" was built, the administration building followed in 1968, the new building in 1970. As the school grew, a number of other buildings were built (the boarding school buildings Haus Damian and Haus Sebastian , cafeteria, sports - and gymnastics hall).
Originally only boys were taught at the Johannes-Gymnasium, it has only been a coeducational school since the school year 1991/92 .
In 1996 the St.-Johannes-Schul-GmbH was founded, which took over the sponsorship of the Johannes-Gymnasium. This GmbH was occupied equally by the Arnstein Fathers and the Diocese of Limburg .
In the 2004/2005 school year, a single, all-day school was introduced in the grammar school.
In 2007 the grammar school was transferred from the sponsorship of the St. Johannes Schul GmbH to the sponsorship of the St. Hildegard Schul-Gesellschaft mbH of the Limburg diocese, as the Arnstein Fathers had to withdraw entirely from the sponsorship of the school. On February 10, 2010, the school's alumni association was founded. The primary objective of the alumni association is to maintain the connection between the alumni with their school and with each other and thus also to create a network of contacts and contact points for the current students.
