David Langner (born September 20, 1975 in Koblenz ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been Lord Mayor of his hometown Koblenz since May 1, 2018 . From 2013 to 2018 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Education, work and family

Langner went to elementary school in Koblenz-Pfaffendorf and completed his Abitur in 1995 at the Johannes-Gymnasium in Lahnstein . He then completed his community service in a home for the blind in Koblenz-Karthause before beginning his studies in political and literary studies in 1996. First he studied at the University of Oldenburg , where he worked as a tutor . He completed his main studies at the universities of Marburg and Mainz . In addition to his studies, he worked as a student assistant in the Rheinische Landesbibliothek in Koblenz . After completing his master's degree, Langner worked from 2004 to 2006 as a political advisor for the SPD regional association.

In 1994 Langner joined the SPD. From 1999 to 2001 he was chairman of the Koblenz Jusos . Since 1999 he has been a board member of the SPD sub-district Koblenz, of which he has been chairman since 2010. In 2000 he was elected chairman of the SPD local club in Koblenz-Pfaffendorf . From 2001 to 2002 he was state manager of Jusos Rhineland-Palatinate. From 2004 to 2013 Langner was a member of the Koblenz City Council.

From May 18, 2006 to 2011, Langner was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the constituency of Koblenz / Lahnstein . There he was environmental policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. He was a member of the Committee on Environment, Forestry and Consumer Protection, the Legal Committee and the Committee on Equality and the Advancement of Women. In addition, since 2007 Langner was a member of the Enquête Commission on Climate Change of the state parliament and from 2010/11 a member of the investigative committee CDU parliamentary group finances 2003–2006 .

From 2010 to 2016 he was chairman of the SPD Koblenz. Since 2006 he has been a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD state executive. From May 2011 to January 2013 he was Vice President of the Structure and Approval Directorate North . When Dreyer I took office , he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography.

Langner ran as a single candidate for the mayoral election of Koblenz in 2017. He won the first ballot on September 24, 2017 with 42.8% of the vote. On October 15, 2017, Langner ran in the runoff against the independent applicant Bert Flöck; he won this with 69.8% of the votes cast. He took up the post of Lord Mayor of Koblenz on May 1, 2018. His term of office is eight years.

Langner has lived in Koblenz-Güls since 2016 .
