Eberhard Schulte-Wissermann (born October 6, 1942 in Krakow ) is a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ). From 1994 to 2010 he was Lord Mayor of Koblenz .

Life and work

Schulte-Wissermann was born in 1942 with twin brother Hermann and comes from an old family in Koblenz. As a senior government councilor, his father was head of the pricing office in Krakow. Schulte-Wissermann began studying law in 1961 after graduating from Görres-Gymnasium in Koblenz . In 1964 he started studying economics. In 1969 he graduated with a degree in economics and in 1972 he graduated as Dr. jur. In 1973 he set up a law firm in Koblenz. Eberhard Schulte-Wissermann has been married to his wife Gunhild since 1969 and they have two sons (Ulrich and Thomas). In 1973 he became chairman of the Moselweißer SPD and in 1991 took over the chairmanship of the SPD Koblenz. In 1974 he joined the city council of Koblenz.

Acting as the Lord Mayor of Koblenz

Schulte-Wissermann won the first direct election as Lord Mayor of the City of Koblenz in the runoff election on June 26, 1994 with a narrow margin of 28 votes against Peter Knüpper (CDU). On May 26, 2002 he was confirmed in this office with 57.7% of the votes in the election against Michael Hörter (CDU).

During his term of office, the plans to host the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show in Koblenz, the opening of the Glockenberg tunnel (2003) and the decision to redesign the central square as well as the establishment of town partnerships with Petach Tikwa (2000) and Varaždin (2007) fell. He is respectfully and casually called "Schuwi" by the people of Koblenz. He held the office of Lord Mayor until May 1, 2010, when he was replaced by Joachim Hofmann-Göttig .
