Konrad Gorges (born July 17, 1898 in Kassel , † November 7, 1968 in Maring-Noviand ) was a German politician ( German People's Party ; NSDAP ). From 1938 to 1945 he was Lord Mayor of Trier , from 1943 also of Luxembourg and in 1945 Lord Mayor of Koblenz for four weeks .

Life and work

The studied lawyer and doctorate worked from 1926 to 1933 for the Koblenz district government. After previous membership in the DVP, he joined the NSDAP on April 1, 1933. Hermann Göring appointed him in his function as Prussian Minister of the Interior at the beginning of April 1933 to the district administrator of the Altenkirchen district , where he stayed until July 1938. From August 1, 1938 to 1945, he was Lord Mayor of Trier and, from August 1, 1943, succeeded Richard Hengst as Lord Mayor of Luxembourg . In addition, he was a member of the supervisory board of Rheinisch-Westfälische Elektrizitätswerke AG . On February 12, 1945 he was temporarily appointed Lord Mayor of the city of Koblenz by Gauleiter Gustav Simon , as Lord Mayor Nikolaus Simmer was drafted into the Wehrmacht . From here he and a large part of the Koblenz administration fled from the approaching US troops to the right bank of the Rhine in March 1945. However , he had no influence on the development of the city, which was badly damaged by the air raids . After the Americans approached the city on March 12, 1945, all bridges in Koblenz were blown up on March 9. Then he made sure that the few remaining administrative employees in the person of the port director Franz Lanters received a new line. Soon afterwards, the Americans appointed him as Lord Mayor of Koblenz.

Konrad Gorges was interned until 1948. The ruling chamber decision of 1949 did not accuse Gorges of any anti-Semitic measures and placed him in Group IV (fellow travelers); the lower court even classified him in group V (not charged) (Reinhard Bollmus).
