Geographical location

Maring-Noviand is surrounded by vineyards, meadows and forests in the natural and cultural landscape of the Moselle in the Trier region and is located in a glacial valley of the river, which was formed at a time when it was not yet on its current bed (around two kilometers away from the town center). The closest medium- sized centers are the cities of Bernkastel-Kues and Wittlich . The university town of Trier is around 33 kilometers as the crow flies .

The two places Maring and Noviand belonged to the Electorate of Trier until the end of the 18th century . In the so-called French era , the places belonged to the canton of Bernkastel in the Saardepartement from 1798 to 1814 , and in 1815 they were assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .

Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
