Local and administrative reform
Due to the dissolution of the community of Neumagen-Dhron , the local communities of Minheim , Neumagen-Dhron and Piesport were incorporated into the community of Bernkastel-Kues on January 1, 2012.

Association municipal council
The Verbandsgemeinderat Bernkastel-Kues consists of 36 honorary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman. Because of the enlargement of the area in connection with the dissolution of the community of Neumagen-Dhron , the council was re-elected on March 11, 2012 outside the regular local elections for a shortened term.
