About this picture

geography

Minheim lies on the Middle Moselle , neighboring communities are Kesten and Piesport . The location within a loop of the Moselle leads to the term “sunny island of Minheim”, which is mainly used in a tourist context.

history

Minheim was first mentioned on September 3, 1061 in a document from Archbishop Eberhard of Trier , when he donated the church and the tithe to the oratory of St. Matthias . Other church institutions in Trier also had goods in Minheim: in 1098 the collegiate monastery of St. Simeon was mentioned , in 1136 the hospital of St. Marien am Dom and in 1159 the abbey of St. Marien . In 1230, Count von Blieskastel received the bailiwick of the place as an Electorate of Trier fief .

From 1794 Minheim was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .

As of January 1, 2012, the Neumagen-Dhron community was dissolved as part of the municipal and administrative reform and the Minheim community was incorporated into the Bernkastel-Kues community .

Municipal council

The local council in Minheim consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

View of Minheim

Minheim is one of the largest wine-growing communities on the Middle Moselle. The individual layers of the community are part of the Michelsberg area . There are also many holiday apartments, wine bars and taverns. The so-called sunny island has many hiking trails and is ideal for cycling tours on the banks of the Moselle.

The motorhome parking space, which was opened in 2000, was voted “Parking space of the year” by readers of the motorhome magazine Promobil in 2007 and in the following years .

The federal highway 53 runs on the other side of the Moselle , to the west the federal highway 1 . In Salmtal and Wittlich there is a train station on the Moselle line .
