Esch is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .
Geographical location
Esch is located in the southern Salmtal on the edge of the Moselle mountains .
history
Esch was first mentioned in a document in 1086 under the name Asche . It was the seat of the Udenesch office . In the 15th century Esch was the residence of the blessed Eberhard, who founded the pilgrimage site of Klausen . From 1794 Esch was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
