history

Heckenmünster was first mentioned in a document around 1231 as "villam, que Monasterium appellatur" (village called Monasterium (monastery)). The place belonged to the rulership of Bruch in the Duchy of Luxembourg and was on the border with the Electorate of Trier . From 1794 Heckenmünster was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

coat of arms

In the obliquely divided shield in front a black paw cross in silver, behind in silver four blue bars, topped with a red, gold-crowned, growing lion.

Mineral springs

At Heckenmünster there are two carbonated springs, also known as “Säuerlinge”: the Viktoria spring and a sulfur spring called “Wallenborn” (not to be confused with the Wallenden Born, about 35 km away ). The springs were used as baths by the Romans ; the water from the Victoria spring was previously bottled and sold. Today both springs are set in as wells, but are no longer used economically. In the valley of the Bendersbach at the level of the local location Heckenmünster you can still find a mineral spring with a high mineral and carbonic acid content but with only a small amount of water.
