Schwarzenborn is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .
geography
Schwarzenborn is located in a mixed forest area in the western Vulkaneifel not far from the US air force base Spangdahlem Air Base . 71.2 percent of the district area is forested.
The residential areas Salmberg and Forsthaus Schwarzenborn belong to Schwarzenborn.
history
Schwarzenborn belonged to the Oberkail rule in the Duchy of Luxembourg since the late Middle Ages , which was a fiefdom of the Counts of Manderscheid-Kail until it died out in 1762 ; then the rule fell to the line Manderscheid-Blankenheim.
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton of Dudeldorf in the department of forests .
In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . In 1816, the community of Schwarzenborn became part of the Wittlich district in the Trier administrative district in the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine province , which became part of the Rhine province in 1822. Schwarzenborn was assigned to the mayor's office in Gransdorf .
The church of Oberkail also served the Schwarzenbornen as a parish church, but the Himmerod monastery , around three kilometers south-east, also shaped the area. Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
