history
The place name is derived from the originally Gallo-Roman croviacum , which later became a Merovingian royal estate. The place was first mentioned in a document under the Carolingian King Lothar II in 862 . Kröv was part of the Kröver Empire , a former royal estate of the Carolingians , which was able to maintain certain privileges until the French Revolution . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Baldur von Schirach
After his release from prison in 1966, the National Socialist and Reich Youth Leader Baldur von Schirach retired to Kröv, where he died a few years later (1974) and was also buried. Schirach's tombstone in the Kröver cemetery bore the inscription "I was one of you". The grave was leveled in 2015.
Rock fall 1992
On the ridge of the Moselle slope opposite Kröv, a rock body totaling 90,000 m 3 was found in motion in December 1991 . Despite a period of little precipitation, the gaps and crevices increased. On May 23, 1992, the rock was blasted and brought to a controlled fall.
