Laufeld in der Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land . Laufeld is a state-approved resort .

history

The Laufelder culture ( Hallstatt C, 700 BC) got its name from a large burial ground that was found near Laufeld.

In 1344 King John of Bohemia , who was also Count of Luxembourg, acquired the "Hof Laufeld" from the Echternach Abbey . This came into the possession of the Counts of Manderscheid shortly afterwards. From 1794 Laufeld was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

On April 1, 2011, an American A-10 ground attack aircraft crashed in a field near Laufeld . The pilot was able to save himself with the ejector seat.

Municipal council

The municipal council in Laufeld consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

The doll and toy museum in Laufeld is worth seeing. There are dolls shown from the 1950s and toys of the past 100 years as well as everyday objects.

The Laufeld nature trail provides information about the forest ecosystem.
