Bettenfeld is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate in the southern Vulkaneifel . It has been a member of the Wittlich-Land community since July 1, 2014 .
geography
The place (460- 480 . M above mean sea level ) is surrounded by two surveys: Southeast lies the forest area of 544 m high Holzbeul while the territory of the former on the eastern side of the bed Fields volcano rises of Mosen mountain. The Mosenberg ( 517 m above sea level ) contains four craters. The most impressive of these is the water-filled Windsborn , a crater lake whose ring wall has been completely preserved. The Windsborn is the only mountain crater lake north of the Alps. The extraordinary appearance of the Mosenberg was already appreciated in the 19th century by travelers, artists and scientists, including the painter Fritz von Wille and the natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt .
The residential area at Hof Rodenbüsch also belongs to Bettenfeld .
history
The first written mention of Bettenfeld under the name "Bettenvelt" was in 1179. By the end of the 18th century, Bettenfeld belonged to the Meerfeld dominion in the Duchy of Luxembourg .
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton of Dudeldorf in the department of forests .
In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . In 1816, the community of Bettenfeld became part of the Wittlich district in the Trier administrative district in the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine province , which was added to the Rhine province in 1822. Bettenfeld was initially the seat of a mayor's office , to which the municipality of Meerfeld also belonged. Bettenfeld was later administered by the mayor of Manderscheid .
The municipality has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

The municipal council in Bettenfeld consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

The description of the coat of arms reads: "Divided from red over silver by a wavy cut, in it a fallen tip, divided from silver over blue, above two left, red pimples, below accompanied on the left by a red paw cross, on the right by a red label."
Culture and sights
Lava used to be mined near Bettenfeld, at the foot of the Mosenberg. Today the Mosenberg volcano adventure park is located there. There is a small roofed observation tower on the top of the mountain .

Bundesautobahn 1 runs in the east of Bettenfeld , in the south the Bundesautobahn 60 .
