Rivenich is a municipality in the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate .
geography
Rivenich is located in the anterior Eifel on the Salm . 33 percent of the municipal area is forested. The closest major city is Trier about 24 km to the southwest.
history
Rivenich was first mentioned in 748 as Riveniacus . After the French Revolution, the place became part of the Saar department . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The present church in Rivenich was built between 1870 and 1871 in neo-Gothic style according to the plans of Reinhold Wirtz , whereby the medieval tower was preserved. The church underwent an interior renovation in 2000. Frescoes from the 1920s were discovered that had been painted over during the last renovation. |
