Meerfeld is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land . Meerfeld is a state-approved resort .
geography
The village is located in the middle of a volcanic crater known as the Meerfelder Maar . Part of the crater is filled with water; the lake is up to 18 meters deep. The Meerfelder Maar is the largest Eifelmaar, because you have to take into account the entire basin, i.e. H. measure the boiler from edge height to edge height. Then there is an extension of around 1500 to 1200 meters. 64.5 percent of the total area of the local community is forested.
The Sauerseifen residential area belongs to Meerfeld .
history
Around 1152 Meerfeld is mentioned as part of the Bettenfeld parish. For centuries the landlords were the lords of Malberg. From 1794 Meerfeld was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Economy and Infrastructure
The twelve accommodation establishments in the state-approved resort offer a total of 210 guest beds and in 2014 were able to record more than 11,000 guests with almost 35,000 overnight stays.

Old forge house
There is a privately run handicraft museum in Brunnenstrasse that can be visited. In the former home from 1789, which was the home of the Meerfeld blacksmith for five generations, tools and equipment from the fields of blacksmith, wheelwright, cooper, shoemaker, flax processing and agriculture can be seen. You can also experience the original living conditions in the Eifel from around 1900. The old forge opposite is fully functional. There is also local information about Meerfeld, such as B. Meerfelder original cadastre from 1828, Meerfeld house signs, dendrochronology and old postcards from Meerfeld.
