history
Malborn was first documented in the year 981, when the Archbishop of Trier, Egbert the Monastery of St. Mary in Trier goods to Malbru gave.
In Celtic times, the forests in the high forest region were used as pasture for cattle. The name Malborn or Malbru is derived from the Gallic words mall, worn, unusable and bro, whetstone, grindstone . Malborn / Malbru therefore means "old, worn or unusable whetstone".
The district of Thiergarten is based on the previous settlement "Wüstenbrühl". Old High German brüel means "enclosed, hedge fence, a pasture or pen protected by a hedge".
Malborn was divided by a border line until the end of the 18th century and was under two sovereigns . One half belonged to Kurtrier and was assigned to the Grimburg office, the other half belonged to the Sponheim Oberamt Birkenfeld .
Due to the turmoil of the French Revolution , the place came under French rule after 1792 and became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
In the Thiergarten district, the Jew Simon Seligmann from Seibersbach was murdered by Johannes Bückler , alias Schinderhannes , on August 12, 1798 .
