Oberscheidweiler in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .
geography
The village lies on the edge of the Vulkaneifel on a high plateau between Alf - and Sammetbachtal. To the south, Niederscheidweiler , west Hasborn and north is Mückeln .

history
The place was first mentioned in 1144 as Scheida in a letter of protection from Emperor Heinrich IV for the Springiersbach monastery . The name Oberscheidweiler has been in use since the 17th century .
The place belonged to Kurtrier and in it to the Daun office . Since the Springiersbach monastery still owned Oberscheidweiler well into the 19th century, jurisdiction was at times divided into two parts in the 16th century. The Electorate Trier feudal and courtiers were subject to the high court in Strohn, while the monastic subjects were subject to the lower jurisdiction of the monastery.
From 1794 Oberscheidweiler was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Due to its location on the historic Poststrasse from Trier to Koblenz, the post office was of particular importance for the place from around 1730. At first, Oberscheidweiler was a station for the Thurn-und-Taxis Post Office. After the Reichspost moved in, there was even a first-class post office in Oberscheidweiler from 1898 to 1957. The old post road through the town was also chosen as a route for telegraph cables in the late 19th century. The special importance of the post was also reflected in the municipal coat of arms awarded in 1993, which contains a post horn in the curly blue tip .
In terms of church, Oberscheidweiler already belonged to the parish of Wollmerath as a branch in the 15th century . The place remained a branch of Wollmerath even after 1715, when the Oberscheidweilers were allowed to attend the service in Niederscheidweiler. In 1775 Oberscheidweiler became a branch of the Strohn parish , and after 1810 it became part of the Niederscheidweiler parish. The church in Oberscheidweiler goes back to a chapel from the 18th century, which has been expanded several times.
Municipal council
The council in Oberscheidweiler consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Attractions
The Catholic branch church of St. Rochus and Katharina von Alexandrien is a four-axis hall building and essentially goes back to a chapel from the 18th century, which was expanded around 1870 and 1922. The church was extensively renovated in 1973/74.
