Landscheid ( phonetic spelling in Eifel dialect : Lähscheld ) in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .

Landscheid lies in the Eifel . 57% of the municipal area is forested and 31% is designated as agricultural area (as of 2012).

history
The first traces of settlement date from the first century AD. The Burscheider Wall is a circular wall used by the Celts as a refuge .
Landscheid was first mentioned in 1157 as Langescheit in a document. The current district of Burg was first listed in a document in 1184 and in 1211 the village of Niederkail . The landlord was the Himmerod monastery , the landlord was the Archbishopric of Trier . Another source says that Niederkail was mentioned in 1070 as the place of residence of the nobleman Godefried von der Keyle .
From 1794 the area of today's municipality was under French rule, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
With effect from December 1, 1975, the previously independent municipalities Burg (Salm) with 390 inhabitants, Landscheid (1135 inhabitants) and Niederkail (627 inhabitants) were dissolved and the local municipality Landscheid was re-established.

- Jakob Marx (born September 8, 1803 in Landscheid, † February 13, 1876 in Trier) was a Roman Catholic theologian, church historian, professor and cathedral capitular in Trier.
- Peter Zirbes (born January 10, 1825 in Niederkail; † November 14, 1901), was a traveling "singer" (poet) from Niederkail. There is a street in the village that was named after him. His house still exists and is a sightseeing destination for tourists.
