Secondary school

Secondary schools are called different groups of schools :

In Germany it is understood to mean schools that are attended after elementary school (usually 1st to 4th grades) in secondary school. In the structured school system , this includes comprehensive schools , grammar schools , secondary schools or middle schools and secondary schools .
In Austria , the schools that go beyond compulsory schooling (1st to 9th grade) are called secondary, i.e. all schools that are not compulsory schools , in the upper secondary level and including the AHS (in the first four years - the lower grades are compulsory). The secondary schools are divided into general higher schools (grammar schools), vocational higher schools and vocational middle schools (technical schools), the former both also lead to university entrance qualifications ( Matura ).
The general compulsory schools in the primary and lower secondary levels of the German system, i.e. elementary school up to 10 years of age, new middle school up to 14 years of age (which replaces the Hauptschule ), the one-year vocational polytechnic school (9th grade) and the special school ( as well as some special forms), as well as the compulsory vocational school (vocational school) of the upper secondary level as part of the dual vocational training.
The same distinction between compulsory schooling applies to statutory schools (schools with an irregular curriculum of their own, such as alternative schools, schools with a foreign curriculum, and some special vocational schools).
In Switzerland it is a term for the upper secondary level (from the 8th grade).
