coat of arms
Blazon : “In red a silver oblique left bar, covered with two intertwined red rings. Above a silver church in the outline of the former parish church. A golden crown below. " | |
Founding of the coat of arms: Until the parishes were reorganized, Gransdorf was the seat of a mother parish with numerous branches. The landmark of Gransdorf is still the former parish church of St. Apollonia, which is located high above the village. The patron saint of the old parish church was the Queen of Heaven and Mother of God, Mary, whose symbol the crown in the lower part of the shield was chosen. Although the nearby Cistercian Abbey of Himmerod only took part in the parish church patronage until 1212, it was tied to Gransdorf as landlady until the end of the Ancien Régime. Your symbol, two intertwined rings, is shown in red in the silver diagonal bar. |

Culture and sights
Old Church of St. Apollonia
The "Old Church of St. Apollonia", built in the 14th century, towers over the town. It has been under the protection of St. Apollonia since the 18th century . For centuries it was the main church of a parish and was only replaced by a new church in the village between 1923 and 1925.
Over the years, the church has been restored from the outside and inside with the help of a special association founded in 1996. Members of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (degree program: Restoration and Conservation of Art and Cultural Property ) partially restored the baroque and late baroque furnishings between 1998 and 2001 . Further work on the outer skin and inside the former parish church followed, and finally the first Holy Mass in a long time was celebrated in the church on October 20, 2001.
Lime kiln
At the old lime kiln , on the outskirts towards Gelsdorf, the second lime burning festival was celebrated in the village in 2002. For this purpose, limestone was brought in from the neighboring village of Pick Lassen . According to an old tradition, the lime was burned for three nights. Lime burning was already a widespread method in the village in order to obtain aids for house painting or against vermin.
village life
There are a few clubs in the small town. The “Ackerbauverein-Südeifel e. V. ”, which has set itself the goal of acquiring historic tractors and agricultural implements, repairing them and thus preserving them for posterity.
