Ehlenz is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has been part of the Bitburger Land community since July 1, 2014 .

Geographical location

Ehlenz

The place is in the Eifel about ten kilometers north of Bitburg in the valley of the Ehlenzbach . Immediately adjacent communities are Ließem , Bickendorf , Heilenbach , Schleid and Oberweiler .

The residential areas Ackerburg, Banzenbach, Schäfersmühle and Zur Schäfersmühle also belong to Ehlenz .

history

The discovery of the remains of Roman buildings and mosaic floors near the “Ackerburg” suggest that there was an early settlement. The first written mention of the place took place in 1233 under the name "Elesezze". Agnes von Malberg pledged her farms in Ehlenz, Stedem and Hinkel to Archbishop Theoderich II of Trier .

Ehlenz belonged to the Electorate of Trier Kyllburg until the end of the 18th century .
