Brecht is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has been part of the Bitburger Land community since July 1, 2014 .
geography
The place is on the Prüm in the Eifel . The Heldhof, Langerthof, Theishof and Tannenhof residential areas also belong to the municipality of Brecht .
history
The place was first mentioned as Brachiet in October 1266, in an instruction from Ludwig Graf von Chiney and Countess Jeanne to the provost of Virton . In 1341 it was mentioned as Villa Brecht . A chapel in Breicht is listed in the visitation protocol from 1570.
Brecht belonged to the Luxembourg county of Vianden until the end of the 18th century and was subordinate to the administration and jurisdiction of the Wißmannsdorf dairy .
In 1794, French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the county of Vianden belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . Under French administration , the place belonged from 1795 to 1814 to the Mairie Wißmannsdorf in the canton of Neuerburg , which administratively belonged to the arrondissement Bitburg in the forest department .
Due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1816, the municipality of Brecht became part of the mayor's office in Wißmannsdorf in the newly formed Bitburg district, and from 1822 until the end of the Second World War it belonged to the Rhine Province .
After the First World War , the area belonged to the French part of the Allied occupation of the Rhineland . After the Second World War , Brecht became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone .
