About this picture
Malberg soft

Malberg Weich bei Malberg in the Eifel is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .

geography

Malberg Weich is located northwest of Kyllburg on the Kyll in the Eifel.

In addition to the main town, the Staffelstein and Birkenhof residential areas belong to the community.

history

It is no longer possible to precisely prove when the place Malbergoft came into being. Finds indicate that the place was already settled in Roman times. The remains of Roman masonry were found in the “Helsdorf” district. An entry in the Prümer Urbar under the name Wihc from the year 893 is to be regarded as the first secure mention . Wihc is derived from the Latin “vicus” = inhabited place.

In the Middle Ages Malbergoft belonged to the Luxembourgish rule "Malberghe". The fate of the place in the period from the 15th to the 17th century can best be traced by looking at the fire pits in the place, meaning houses in which there was a cooking place. In 1475 there were 11 fireplaces, 1551 = 6, 1636 = 14 and in 1656 only 5 fireplaces (1618–1648 Thirty Years War). One can only guess what suffering the residents are behind these numbers. The settlement had constantly changing masters, for example, as part of the Duchy of Luxembourg , it belonged to the Austrian Netherlands until 1795 .

After 1792, French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , which included the Duchy of Luxembourg and thus Malbergoft, and annexed it in 1795 . Under French administration , Malbergoft was assigned to the canton of Bitburg in 1795 , which was part of the Bitburg arrondissement in the Forests department .

Due to the resolutions passed at the Congress of Vienna , the region became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . Under the Prussian administration Malbergweich belonged to the mayor Malberg in 1816 the newly formed Bitburg in Trier . Malbergoft became an independent municipality in 1845. A local council has existed since that time. The first mayor was called Nikolaus Zalfen.
