geography

The village is located in the South West Eifel , approx. 15 km south of the district town of Bitburg . In the south, the municipality border also forms the border between the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm and the district of Trier-Saarburg . Of the 6.72 km² municipal area, a comparatively large proportion of 74% is used for agriculture, only 18% are forest. One kilometer west of Idesheim runs the federal highway 51 , which leads to Bitburg among other places.

The Idesbacher municipality area was settled very early on. This is indicated by numerous Stone Age finds and Roman period settlement remains in the field names In the book , Konigsberg , Jeich and Hühnerbach out. The first documentary mention as "Adinesheim" took place in the year 844 in an exchange deed between the monastery of Prüm and Count Sigard. After 1794 the place, which had previously belonged to the Electorate of Welschbillig, went to the Mairie Idenheim , which later became the mayor's office of Idenheim . The latter came in 1930 to the Bitburg-Land Office, which in 1970 was merged with other offices to form the Bitburg-Land Verbandsgemeinde, to which Idesheim has belonged ever since.

In 1625, 15 households were counted in Idesheim Ort, by 1653 this number had dropped to only 8. In contrast to some other Eifel towns, the number of inhabitants has risen sharply since the end of the 18th century. In 1787 155 inhabitants were recorded, in 1895 the place was populated by 285 inhabitants. Since the 1930s the number has moved only slightly and fluctuates around the 400-inhabitant limit.

Attractions

The Catholic branch church St. Appolonia consists u. a. from the east tower built in 1717 and the nave from 1811. The war memorial chapel and numerous crossroads in the Idesheim municipality are also worth seeing. Several old residential buildings have been preserved in good condition within the village.
