Nattenheim is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .

geography

Nattenheim lies on the Bickendorfer plateau belonging to the Gutland . The community also includes the Gersthof, Nattenheimer Mühle, Lösenberg and Mühlenhof residential areas .

The largest places in the area are Bickendorf , Fließem and Rittersdorf . The closest city is the district town of Bitburg .

history

In 1875 a Roman temple with a fragmentary building inscription and a limestone statuette was found west of the Trier – Cologne Roman road . Two Roman milestones from 121 and 139 AD have also been found in this area. Nattenheim was bequeathed in a deed of donation from 759 as "Nathneim" to the Echternach monastery , later the place came to the Prüm Abbey . He was part of the rule of Rittersdorf in the Duchy of Luxembourg from the division of the Franconian Empire to the French era . In the 16th century , there was a post office in Nattenheim, verifiably from 1522 until it was relocated to Bickendorf before 1596, on the Dutch postal route from Brussels via Rheinhausen , Augsburg and Innsbruck to Italy.

Justification for the coat of arms: The two-part coat of arms shows a red glaive cross in the head of the shield , borrowed from the coat of arms of the Echternach monastery , and in the lower part the hunting horn, attribute of the local patron Hubertus .

Buildings

  • The neo-Romanesque church of St. Hubertus was built in 1875, it is a limestone block building with sandstone masonry, presumably on the site of the previous building mentioned in 1570, from which an 18th century baptismal font probably originates.
  • Numerous farms and houses from the 18th and 19th centuries are well preserved in the village.
