Wettlingen is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .
geography
Wettlingen is 10 km southwest of Bitburg near Bettingen an der Prüm . Of the 346 hectares of community area, 85 hectares are forest, 223 are used for agriculture (as of 2017).
history
Wettlingen is a community of Franconian origin. The remains of Franconian graves were found on the community mountain. The place is mentioned for the first time around 1200 in a list of foundations of the Trier cathedral chapter . The place had a mill, which was sold in 1329 by the Lord of Neuerburg to Johann de la Roche. The Agatha Chapel is first mentioned in 1570. After the Thirty Years War , four of the seven farms remained unmanaged.
Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Luxembourg rule Bettingen . From 1795 to 1814 Wettlingen belonged to the French department of forests before it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia on the basis of the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 . Under the Prussian administration, Wettlingen was assigned to the mayor's office of Bettingen in the Bitburg district, newly established in 1816, in the Trier administrative district , which from 1822 belonged to the Rhine province . In 1856 Wettlingen came to the mayor's office in Alsdorf , in 1914 to the mayor's office of Wolsfeld (from 1927 Wolsfeld office ), in 1970 to the Bitburg-Land community and in 2014 to the Bitburger Land community .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Wettlingen consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
