Location of the local community Neidenbach in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm
Neidenbach is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .
geography
Neidenbach is located in the Eifel about 45 km north of Trier in the Kyllburger Waldeifel . The local community also includes the hamlet of Erntehof 2.5 km northwest of the village and the residential areas Koppenweg, Maierhof, Nickelshof and Am Wasserfall.
history
Field names and some archaeological finds indicate a Roman and Franconian settlement of the area around Neidenbach. A boundary stone on the Roman road Trier-Cologne , which ran over the heights between Neidenbach and Balesfeld and is recognizable in the terrain and on topographic maps, bears the inscription FINIS PAGI CARVCVM and thus indicates a settlement that was not otherwise attested under this name, presumably Celtic Caruces (see Carosgau ).
The place was first mentioned in 1177 as Nidenbuch in a document from Pope Alexander III. , in which it is mentioned that Count Fulco de Malberc donated an allodium (inheritance and estate) with all accessories to the monastery of Himmerod .
Up to the end of the 18th century Neidenbach belonged partly to Kurtrier ( Amt Kyllburg ), partly to the Duchy of Luxembourg ( Reign of Malberg ). The manorial estate belonged to Herr von Malberg , Baron von Veyder, and the Cistercian monastery of Sankt Thomas bei Kyllburg in equal parts. The two gentlemen set up a joint court, from which the Luxembourg subjects appealed to Luxembourg and the Trier subjects to Trier . In 1531 nine Trier and five Luxembourg fireplaces were counted, in 1624 also nine Trier fires, but in 1636 eight Luxembourg fireplaces (households). In 1777 there were eight Trier and ten Luxembourg fireplaces.
The place was also divided in the so-called French period , the previously Luxembourg part belonged to the forest department from 1795 to 1814 , the previously Trier part belonged to the Saar department from 1798 to 1814 .
After the Congress of Vienna (1815) Neidenbach came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Neidenbach belonged, now undivided, to the mayor's office of Malberg in the newly formed district of Bitburg in the administrative district of Trier , which belonged to the Rhine province from 1822 on .
In 1914 the municipalities of the Malberg mayor's office were incorporated into the Kyllburg mayor's office, including Neidenbach.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Neidenbach was strongly characterized by sandstone pits, which in particular supplied the Rhenish heavy industry with large numbers of handcrafted whetstones . Due to new technologies and work safety regulations ( silicosis !) This industry gradually declined; In 1971 there was only one small business.
From 1968 to 2014 Neidenbach belonged to the newly founded Verbandsgemeinde Kyllburg , which merged with the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburg-Land to form the new Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land in 2014 .

coat of arms
Blazon : "In silver a blue key turned diagonally to the right, a red grindstone in front, a blue cornflower behind."
Justification of the coat of arms: As a symbol of the town and church patron St. Peter, his symbol, the key, is in the coat of arms. The patronage has existed for centuries, confirmed in the visitation protocol of 1576. At the request of the municipal council, the coat of arms in the other symbols should reflect the economic structure of the municipality. The red grindstone stands for the very old and extensive sandstone industry, the blue cornflower for agriculture as an economic factor. The shield color white with the symbol colors red and blue indicate the colors of Kurtrier (red-white) and the Duchy of Luxembourg (blue-white), under which Neidenbach was divided. |
