Waldeifel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A part of the southern Eifel landscape along the middle and lower Kyll valley and its immediate surroundings is called the Waldeifel or Kyllburger Waldeifel . The altitudes vary between 300 and 500 meters. In the west the Waldeifel borders on the Bitburger Gutland .

Where the Kyll , coming from the Schnee-Eifel , cuts deeper into the rump highlands of the Eifel and the foothills of the Hohen and the Vulkaneifel descend to the south, extensive forests, interrupted again and again by small-scale arable and meadow areas, characterize this Eifel landscape.

From north to south the Kyll flows in numerous meanders through the primeval mountains to flow north of Trier into the Moselle . The city of Kyllburg, which was first mentioned in the year 800, lies in the geographical center . It is the administrative seat of the Kyllburg Association formed in 1970 and is also the smallest town in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The area is a holiday region for hikers and cyclists, especially in the summer and autumn months.
